Nostalgia – Fado’s Fate

In 2011 UNESCO named Fadó World Heritage. The Portuguese art feeds into Portuguese Jazz composer Nuno Torres Marques’s new music. The sounds of his homeland brought him to The Scroll Ensemble, where he found the soul of Jazz and Fadó in an Early Music Ensemble.

The Scroll Ensemble takes Fadó as a starting point and travels back through 16th-18th century guitar music to find the dances and songs that may have been ancestors to Fadó. Or what about Domenico Scarlatti’s “Fandango Portugués”?

Influences from Spain, Brazil and Africa come to the fore too.
