Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis – transformation: a celebration of the unexpected. This concert will be a semi-theatrical performance combining 17th-Century poetry based on Ovid’s Metamorphosis with improvisation on 17th-Century music, inspired by the Dutch Orpheus: Jacob van Eyck.
Metamorphoses, by the seminal Classical poet Ovid, juxtaposes seemingly unrelated stories, merging or transforming into each other. The music, like the stories, undergoes transformations, metamorphosing from style to style, and illustrating the text in a picturesque way.
Listen to a part of “Bockxvoetje”, where shepherds lament the loss of their nymphs to a horde of satyrs, after which they battle them to win their loves back.
