Giulio Quirici – Lutes and Guitars

Having started out as a self-taught, Giulio Quirici dedicated to the guitar after high school. He studied jazz with Paolo Birro and Michele Calgaro at the conservatory of his native Vicenza, also attending courses and masterclasses by the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Berklee College of Music, Akademie für Alte Musik Bremen and taking private lessons with some of his favorite musicians. Giulio continued his jazz studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, but gradually shifted his focus on acoustic music and graduated his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in baroque lute and baroque guitar instead, studying with Mike Fentross and Joachim Held. During this period Giulio had the chance to play the lute in the orchestra under the direction of Frans Brüggen & Orchestra of the 18th Century, Philippe Pierlot, Milos Valent, National Jeugd Orkest, Enrico Gatti and many more.

In 2013 Giulio joined Radio Antiqua; this ensemble won the Göttingen Händel Competition (public and audience prize) in 2014, recorded its debut CD “Treasures of the German Baroque” and toured Europe with Enrico Onofri in 2015, received the Van Waessenaer Competition (audience prize and second price) in 2016.

Giulio debuted in 2016 with his own chamber music project, Lautenwerk.

Giulio is in demand as a freelance basso continuo player, having collaborated with Vox Luminis, Les Musiciens do Louvre, Holland Baroque, Ensemble Odyssee, Collegium Musicum Den Haag, Opera2Day, etc, in prestigious venues and festivals such as Innsbruker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Göttingen Haendel Festspiele, Handel Haus Halle, Concertgebouw, Konzerthaus Berlin, Thüringer Bachwochen, Philarmonie Luxemburg, Utrecht Oude Muziek, Universiteit van Ankara, Boston University, Opus Amadeus Istanbul, Modena Grandezze e Meraviglie, Pavia Barocca, etc. In parallel to his concert activity, Giulio is an instrumental music teacher at the British School in The Netherlands.
